Mistakes with Email Marketing
Email marketing is one of the best ways to promote an online business without going overboard on marketing costs. It can be extremely helpful, but only if it is done right. Here is how to do it wrong.
Badgering Readers with Email Marketing
The biggest mistake you can make in email marketing is send mail to people who did not request it. Your mailing list should consist only of people who agreed to have mail sent to them, preferably twice. Otherwise, they won't want to hear from you.
Using Too Many Graphics
It's nice to give your email some flare, but if it is overflowing with graphics it will only bog down your readers' computers. This will waste their time, and there is a chance they won't bother next time.
Using Email Marketing to Bore Readers
If the content is not interesting, your readers are gone. The same is true if it is spelled badly, unorganized, or if you spend the entire email talking about the benefits of your business. By the same token, forgetting to put in a call to action is just as bad. If they follow the call to action, make sure the link takes them where they want to be.
